“Liberty cannot be preserved without a general knowledge among the people.” - John Adams

Litigation is a staple of the legal profession.  However, litigation can become very expensive.  For the parent of a special education child, the “scale of justice” may mean balancing the goal of obtaining the best educational services against the goal of not spending any more money than necessary.  With that in mind, one of my goals as an attorney is to educate and empower you to better deal with the IEP Team before you spend your hard-earned money on litigation.  Proper knowledge will also allow you to weigh the relative strength or weakness of your case, and the legal standards you must meet in order to succeed.  Armed with the appropriate knowledge, you will have a better chance of success with self-advocacy, and will be able to make a better-informed decision as to whether further legal action is appropriate.

Therefore, in addition to traditional representation and litigation, I also offer the following services to help you deal with the IEP Team:

Ž Review your child’s IEP’s, evaluations, and other school records,

Ž Research appropriate statutory law and prior case law applicable to your situation,

Ž Perform a legal analysis of the IEP,

Ž Develop legal recommendations and arguments,

Ž Consult with you by phone or in person to review my findings and recommendations, and transfer knowledge to help you better self-advocate,

Ž Develop an extensive legal memorandum, documenting findings, appropriate law, legal standards, and legal recommendations.
